Pushed to the brink: The link between food insecurity and mental health
The relationship between food insecurity and mental health is deeply intertwined.
People with mental health conditions face a heightened risk of falling into food insecurity, while those experiencing food insecurity are more prone to poor mental health.
Our latest report finds families across the UK are stuck in a cycle of poverty, food insecurity and poor mental health - with children particularly affected.
This highlights why Government intervention is crucial to break the cycle of food insecurity and poor mental health. Preventative policies have the potential to enhance the wellbeing of the population while simultaneously benefiting the healthcare system.

This week we travelled to York to stage an event with Fix Our Food encouraging Metro Mayors to play their part in ensuring all children can access a hot,
nutritious meal at school.
On the same day we released a joint briefing with Child Poverty Action Group showing 70,000 children living in poverty in Yorkshire and Humber are missing out on this nutritional safety net, including at least 1,000 children in every local authority.

We're hoping the briefing will galvanise Metro Mayors to lobby national government to expand Free School Meals to more children across the country, encourage them to fund pilots in their area in the absence of government action and advocate for auto-enrolment and school food quality adherence.
